Ash Glaze Tea Boat (Hucheng)

Handmade Ceramic Dry Tea Tray

Inspired by the quiet elegance of Song Dynasty aesthetics, this handcrafted Tea Boat (Hucheng) is designed for the modern dry-style Gongfu tea table.

Its soft petal-shaped form, natural ash glaze, and warm matte finish create a peaceful space for every tea session.

The Beauty of Ash Glaze

The glaze of this Tea Boat begins with something humble—grass and wood ash.

After natural plants are burned, the ash is carefully collected, finely ground, and blended into a traditional ceramic glaze.

The piece is then fired for approximately 15 hours at over 1330°C (2426°F).

The result is a surface that feels smooth and warm like jade, with soft earthy tones that can never be perfectly duplicated.

Each firing creates subtle variations, making every piece one of a kind.

Designed for Dry Gongfu Tea

The Tea Boat, also known as a Hucheng, is one of the essential pieces in traditional Gongfu tea.

Instead of collecting large amounts of waste water like a tea tray, it supports a cleaner and more minimalist brewing style known as dry brewing.

It can be used to hold:

  • Gaiwan
  • Yixing teapot
  • Small teapot
  • Tea pet
  • Fairness pitcher (Gong Dao Bei)

Simple, elegant, and practical for everyday tea sessions.

Inspired by Song Dynasty Aesthetics

Its gently curved flower-petal silhouette reflects the understated beauty admired during China's Song Dynasty.

Rather than bright decoration, it celebrates quiet textures, natural colors, and balanced proportions.

The result is a piece that complements almost any tea table.

Includes

  • Handmade Ash Glaze Tea Boat ×1
  • Natural loofah insulation pad ×1

The included loofah pad helps protect the ceramic from direct heat while improving stability during brewing.
