|Fragrance of the Ancients – Wild, Deep, Pure|
Product Type: Stick Incense
Net Weight: 10g (approx. 20 sticks)
Length: 21 cm per stick
Burn Time: Approx. 45 minutes per stick
Ingredient: Wild agarwood from Gua Zhang, Vietnam (Aquilaria crassna)
Product Description
This incense is made from wild-harvested agarwood from Gua Zhang (芽庄), a coastal region in southern Vietnam famed for producing some of the most resin-rich Aquilaria trees in the world. Unlike cultivated oud, this wood forms naturally over decades—after the tree suffers wounds from lightning, insects, or decay. The tree’s slow response produces dark, aromatic resin with unparalleled depth.
Handcrafted into slender sticks, this incense contains no fillers or synthetic additives—only the essence of agarwood, bound with natural makko for an even, slow burn. Each stick is 21cm long, burns for approximately 45 minutes, and offers a rare, sacred experience for both novice and master alike.
Scent Profile
-
Opening: cool and sweet, like forest mist at dawn
-
Heart: gentle floral notes, soft and floating
-
Base: deep resin, meditative, slightly bitter-sweet and earthy
The aroma does not overpower—it enters the room like a presence, not a smell. It lingers long after the ember fades, haunting yet comforting. This is incense not for perfume—but for insight, space, and surrender.
Cultural Notes
Known in Chinese tradition as "the fragrance of sages", agarwood (Chen Xiang, 沉香) has long been prized for its ability to stabilize qi, open the orifices, and ground the mind. In Japan, the highest grades of agarwood are reserved for Kōdō—the "Way of Incense"—as a spiritual practice, not merely a sensory pleasure.
Gua Zhang agarwood holds special reverence among collectors due to its natural sweet-cool scent and floral resonance. It is often referred to as the most balanced of all oud types—neither overly bitter, nor overly sweet.

To burn this incense is to feel a door opening—not outside, but within.
It is fragrance as meditation. Wood as silence. Smoke as time.
Our incense is entirely handcrafted — never machine-made. We work exclusively with a family-owned incense atelier that dates back to 1404. This lineage once served the imperial court during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and today remains an official partner of the Palace Museum (The Forbidden City).
Due to the artisanal nature of our incense and the long-distance shipping involved, occasional breakage may occur — a natural trace of its handmade origin. As a gesture of appreciation, we offer a complimentary incense holder with every purchase of stick or coil incense. If you are sensitive to this, we kindly suggest reconsidering before placing your order.
