Product Description
Goose Pear Chamber Incense — its name is drawn from the Tang Dynasty, when it first appeared in court records as a scent blended specifically for night use, elegance, and inner quiet. It is a classical composite incense, built upon a precise harmony of deep agarwood, creamy sandalwood, and the rare extract of goose pear—a cooling fruit used both medicinally and ceremonially in ancient times.
This incense revives that ancient formula in handmade stick form. Each stick is 21cm long, with 10 grams yielding about 20 slender, elegant sticks. Burn time per stick is roughly 45 minutes, ideal for long sessions of reading, meditation, or stillness after dark.
Scent Profile
-
Opening: soft, cooling sweetness, like dew on pear blossom
-
Heart: sandalwood’s milky warmth rising from beneath
-
Base: aged agarwood with resinous depth and meditative calm
This incense offers a slow unfurling scent: it begins gently, almost ethereally, and builds in depth as it burns. It is designed not to overwhelm, but to create space within space—cooling the breath, calming the nerves, softening the world.
Cultural Significance
This formula was recorded over 1,000 years ago in Tang Dynasty medical and poetic texts. In the evenings, noble scholars and poets would burn this scent before writing, playing qin, or hosting literary salons. The goose pear, with its natural coolness, was believed to ease dryness and heat—physical and emotional alike.
In traditional Chinese medicine and incense practice, “cool” scents like goose pear and agarwood were burned at night, believed to “settle the spirit” and enhance lucid dreaming.

To light this incense is to step softly into a Tang Dynasty chamber: moonlight outside the window lattice, a silk scroll half-written, the scent of pear and wood rising in the stillness. It does not announce itself. It waits to be felt.
Our incense is entirely handcrafted — never machine-made. We work exclusively with a family-owned incense atelier that dates back to 1404. This lineage once served the imperial court during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and today remains an official partner of the Palace Museum (The Forbidden City).
Due to the artisanal nature of our incense and the long-distance shipping involved, occasional breakage may occur — a natural trace of its handmade origin. As a gesture of appreciation, we offer a complimentary incense holder with every purchase of stick or coil incense. If you are sensitive to this, we kindly suggest reconsidering before placing your order.
