Wuyi Mountains Rougui  · Classic Oolong Tea with Distinct “Rock Charm”

70g

Origin: Wuyi Mountains, Fujian, China
Tea Type: Oolong (Rock Tea / Yancha)
Flavor Profile: Rich aroma, clean and full-bodied taste, fast, lingering sweetness

Rou Gui, named after its tea tree , is one of the most widely cultivated cultivars in Wuyi Mountain today. Its history spans more than a century, tracing back to the late Qing Dynasty, when it was first discovered near Mazhen Peak.

At that time, Rou Gui was a small-leaf, asexual shrub variety with a naturally short lifespan — rarely exceeding 40 years. Local tea farmers were reluctant to grow it. Only after 1985, when it was officially recognized as the Rou Gui cultivar, did it begin to flourish on a large scale. Today, it stands proudly among the “Three Legends of Wuyi Rock Tea”, alongside Da Hong Pao and Shui Xian.

Although asexual propagation should, in theory, make all Rou Gui taste identical, nature always finds ways to create difference. The flavor varies subtly with the terroir — shaped by altitude, soil structure, temperature, and sunlight.

At Baiyun Teahouse, our Rou Gui comes from high mountain tea gardens above 700 meters, where the average annual temperature hovers around 12°C and the day-night temperature difference is large. This unique environment gives the tea its signature thick aroma, layered sweetness, and deep “rock rhyme.”

Brewing Guide:
For group brewing, use 8g of tea and 100°C purified or spring water. Pour quickly and serve immediately for the first infusions.
From the fourth brew onward, adjust steeping time according to personal taste — that’s when the warm cinnamon note softens, and the rock fragrance reveals its depth.
