Inspired Doucai “Chicken Cup” Tea Tray Set
Where imperial elegance meets modern tea ritual.
This tea tray set pays homage to the legendary Ming dynasty Chicken Cup, one of the most iconic works in Chinese porcelain history. Its playful yet symbolic design—hens, roosters, and chicks amidst peonies and garden rocks—embodied themes of prosperity, family harmony, and renewal.
The original was crafted using the doucai (斗彩) technique, meaning “contrasting colors.” This refined method involves outlining designs in underglaze cobalt blue, firing once, then filling in colored glazes over the outlines and firing again at a lower temperature. The result is a soft, layered palette—vivid yet restrained, detailed yet graceful.
Today, authentic Chicken Cups are among the most prized ceramic treasures in the world, with a single cup fetching over 36 million USD at auction.
Our set is not a replica, but a respectful reinterpretation:
-
A doucai-style tea tray with a built-in water reservoir, designed to keep your tea space clean and centered.
-
Available as a stand-alone tray, or as a complete tea set with:
• 3 Chicken Cups
• 1 matching doucai Gaiwan (lidded bowl)
Each piece carries the spirit of imperial artistry, ready to serve your modern tea practice with charm and quiet confidence.
Let the beauty of doucai live again—not behind glass, but in the warmth of your hands, the steam of your tea, and the pause between sips.
