Hand-Painted Custom Teaware by Master Zheng Ya
Every piece is painted by Intangible Cultural Heritage Master Zheng Ya, crafted from the finest kaolin clay, and formed entirely by hand. The process is 100% handmade, requiring 30–60 days for completion.

Zheng Ya – Ceramic Painter

Zheng Ya is a ceramic painter from Jingdezhen.

She studied ceramics under Master Zhou Peng, calligraphy with Yang Jian, and traditional Chinese painting under Fang Yan of Qianzhu Academy.

She also trained with Zhang Songmao, one of China’s most renowned ceramic artists.

Today, she is recognized as a Provincial-level Arts and Crafts Artist of Jiangxi and an Intangible Cultural Heritage inheritor of Jingdezhen.

Selected Works by Zheng Ya

Overglaze vs. Underglaze

  • Overglaze (釉上彩): The painting is applied on top of the glaze and fired at a lower temperature. This results in vivid, bright, jewel-like colors with rich detail. It is especially suitable for expressive designs such as pet portraits, flowers, or lively patterns.

  • Underglaze (釉下彩): The design is painted before glazing and then fired at high temperature. The artwork is sealed beneath the glaze, giving it a softer, more classical tone. It is extremely durable and highly valued in traditional collections.

Master Cup vs. Guest Cup

  • Master Cup (主人杯): Larger in size (around 100–150ml) and reserved for the tea host. It often carries personalized themes such as calligraphy or pet portraits and reflects the host’s identity and taste.

  • Guest Cup (客人杯): Smaller in size (around 30–50ml), used to serve guests during a tea session. While guest cups emphasize sharing and hospitality, the Master Cup highlights the host’s personal expression and presence in the tea ceremony.

Compensation / Customization Explanation

  • Half-painted (半绘): The design covers about 50% of the cup’s surface area.

  • Fully-Wrap (全绘): The entire cup is covered with the hand-painted design.

Why Choose This?

  • One-of-a-kind artwork: Each piece is hand-painted and cannot be duplicated.

  • Functional yet collectible: Suitable for daily tea drinking while also carrying artistic and cultural value.

  • Personal expression: The Master Cup in particular is a signature item, representing the tea host’s personality and style.

  • Pet Series: Many clients enjoy commissioning portraits of their beloved animals, bringing warmth and companionship into their daily tea ritual.

Note: Every item is handmade and hand-painted, so slight variations are natural and enhance uniqueness. Once the design is confirmed, cancellations or major changes cannot be accepted.
Some clients choose to have portraits of pets that have passed, turning the cup into a gentle daily remembrance.
