It is the lingering fragrance and mineral-like depth that remain in the mouth after the tea has been swallowed.

What Is “Zhengyan”?

Wuyi Mountain tea is traditionally discussed in three broad categories:

Zhou Tea

Tea grown around the wider Wuyi Mountain region, outside the core scenic tea-growing areas.

Banyan Tea

Tea grown around the outer areas of the Wuyi Mountain core region.

Zhengyan Tea

The most prized category, grown within the core rocky terrain of Wuyi Mountain.

The combination of rocky soil, mountain elevation, natural vegetation, mist, and a unique microclimate gives Zhengyan tea its distinctive character.

This is where the classic Yan Yun of Wuyi Rock Tea is most clearly expressed.

Lion Peak · Qing Shiyan

The tea comes from Qing Shiyan, an area of Lion Peak where the mountain rocks resemble a green lion.

The environment creates a balanced and layered character rather than relying on a single dominant aroma.

Aroma

Cinnamon · Creamy · Floral

The characteristic cinnamon fragrance of Rou Gui is accompanied by a soft creamy note and delicate floral aromas.

Flavor

Rich and balanced, with a warm, rounded texture and the characteristic depth of Zhengyan Rock Tea.

Aftertaste

The fragrance continues after swallowing, gradually returning through the mouth.

This lingering sensation is the essence of Yan Yun.

Brewing Guide

Gongfu Brewing

Tea: 7–10g
Gaiwan: 150ml
Water: 100°C / Boiling

Rinse: Optional quick rinse.

Brewing: Pour boiling water over the leaves and serve immediately.

As the leaves open, the aroma and flavor will gradually evolve through successive infusions.
