What’s the pinnacle of Gongfu tea? It has to be Lao Banzhang Pu’er — a name every true tea lover knows.
Think of it as the Rolls-Royce of tea, the Lafite of brews, the Blue Mountain of the tea world.
Because Lao Banzhang is rare and expensive, counterfeits flood the market. To protect this thousand-year-old ancient tea garden, only those with deep partnerships with local farmers can enter during the spring harvest. Bringing in tea from other mountains is strictly forbidden.
Today, only three companies in the world have processing factories in Lao Banzhang — baiyunteahouse is one of them. You're welcome to visit our ancient tea garden in person — don't be fooled by fakes!
The taste? Bold and intense. Bitter at first, but quickly turns sweet, with rich floral and fruity notes that bloom in the mouth. After three years of aging, the flavor reaches new heights — this is the true summit of Gongfu tea.
Rare Single Bush Selection – The Pinnacle of Laobanzhang
This 200g tea cake is the highest grade of our Laobanzhang series — Xuanzhu (选株), meaning “Selected Bush.”
Crafted exclusively from individual, isolated ancient tea trees — each over a century old — this tea is not merely a harvest, it is a curation.
Only the most powerful and expressive trees from our core ancient gardens are chosen. The result: an ultra-limited, pure expression of terroir, qi, and wild elegance.
📍 Origin: Laobanzhang Village, Bulang Mountain, Xishuangbanna
🌳 Source: Individually selected ancient trees
🧱 Type: 200g compressed cake
🕊️ Category: Raw Pu’er (Sheng Cha)
🏷️ Grade: Xuanzhu – Rare Single Bush Selection
👑 What Is “Xuanzhu” Laobanzhang?
Xuanzhu is not a blend. Not even a field selection.
It is single-tree-level curation — the highest possible standard in ancient tree tea.
Baiyun Teahouse’s team spends weeks each spring identifying individual trees with the most distinct expression of Laobanzhang’s character:
🪵 Deep-rooted strength
🌫️ Fragrant mist-holding leaves
🍃 Perfect leaf-to-bud ratios
Only then do we harvest. Each Xuanzhu batch comes from fewer than 20 trees. Yields are extremely limited — and never blended across trees.
🍵 Flavor Profile
Initial Taste: Intense and immediate — bitterness with vertical lift and deep resonance.
Transformation: Bitterness fades cleanly, revealing a layered sweetness that rests on the palate.
Aroma: Complex, with wild orchid, sandalwood, and an almost incense-like dry note.
Mouthfeel: Deep, structured, and expansive — carries a “mountain breath” feeling.
Aftertaste: Echoes through the throat and chest; salivation returns for minutes after.
Cha Qi: Profound — meditative, energizing, almost trance-inducing.

🧘♂️ Who Is This Tea For?
This is a tea for the quiet listener. For the collector, the practitioner, the seeker.
Not for daily drinking — Xuanzhu is a ceremony.
Its energy moves through the body like wind through a forest.
You don’t sip this tea; you sit with it.
🍂 Aging & Collectibility
Few Pu’er teas age like single-tree selections.
✔️ Ultra-low yield = high collectibility
✔️ High altitude & deep roots = outstanding aging structure
✔️ Year-stamped and bush-traceable — every cake is part of a numbered batch
✔️ Dramatic transformation: floral notes deepen into resin, sweetness intensifies
📦 Storage Tips
Ideal storage: dry, well-ventilated, odor-free space
Use breathable materials (clay, unglazed pottery, cotton wrapper)
Avoid plastic, tin, or sealed containers
Can be aged 10–30+ years with proper care
🔥 Brewing Guide (Gong Fu Style)
Water: 95–100°C (203–212°F)
Leaf-to-water ratio: 7–8g per 120ml
Rinse: 5 sec to awaken the leaf
Recommended vessel: Thin-lipped porcelain or aged Yixing
Infusions: 20–25 rounds — intensity grows, then softens
Breathe. Focus. Let the mountain speak.
