Hand-Thrown Gaiwan /Teacup
Real craftsmanship needs no guessing. One look, one touch — you’ll know.
Why choose hand-thrown porcelain?
Every piece is shaped directly on the potter’s wheel. It isn’t pressed by a machine or released from a mold. The walls rise naturally from the artisan’s hands — thinner toward the rim, lighter in the hand, and full of life.
How to tell if it’s truly handmade? Here are two quick tests:
1. The base shape — can you lift it easily?
-
Machine-made:
The base has a curved shape so it can be released from a mold. Because of this, you can barely pinch or lift it with your fingers. -
Hand-thrown:
The base is straight and vertical. You can easily pick it up with a light grip.
2. Thick or thin — look near the rim
-
Machine-made:
It’s pressed from top to bottom, so the area near the rim is intentionally made thicker to prevent deformation during firing. -
Hand-thrown:
It’s shaped from bottom to top on the wheel. The closer it gets to the rim, the thinner and more delicate it becomes.
3. Shine a light through it — the truth appears instantly
-
Machine-made:
You’ll see a darker shadow near the rim where the thickened section is.

-
Hand-thrown:
The light passes through evenly. The porcelain looks clean, smooth, and luminous — almost like jade.

Micro-Flaw Gaiwan (Optional Selection)

Micro-flaw option: Invisible in normal lighting; only under a strong flashlight you may see tiny cotton-like specks inside the porcelain. It does not affect use.
